Registration is open for the 22nd annual Charity Golf Classic in support of Heart of America Medical Center. Up to 26 four-person teams will tee off Friday, July 31, at the Rugby Golf Club. Team registration deadline is July 10.

"At its May meeting, the Good Samaritan Health Services Foundation board of directors decided they wanted the golf tournament to happen," said Foundation director Cathy Jelsing. "With the blessing of the hospital administration, we set the date."

"Due to the coronavirus, golfers will be outdoors as much as possible and we will skip the traditional tournament supper," Jelsing said. "We will, however, provide donuts in the morning, bag lunches at noon, and snacks in the afternoon. The Pay-to-Play contests and prize drawings will be back as usual, as will be the best team theme contest."

New this year is all-online tournament registration. Teams must register online by going to the GSHS Foundation webpage at www.hamc/foundation/golf. Sponsors may contribute online or provide cash and in-kind support by contacting Jelsing at or calling her at 701-776-5455 ext. 2149.

If the tournament is cancelled due to community spread of COVID-19, teams and sponsors will be offered full refunds or the opportunity to contribution all or a portion of sponsorships and fees to this year's Charity Golf Classic cause: "Give Elevator One a Lift."

Elevator One is a top priority on HAMC's critical facilities improvements list. This elevator serves Care Center residents, visitors and staff, and is the primary elevator used by Wellness Center clients. The total project cost is about $250,000; the 2020 Charity Golf Classic fundraising goal is $25,000.
