In their first Western Dakota Association matchup of the season, the Bottineau-Rugby Braves faced the Jamestown Bluejays last Friday at the Al Wentz Arena in Rugby.

The Bluejays came away with a 7-2 victory over the Braves.

The Braves struck first, with defender Riley Rybchinski (and Ian Amsbaugh providing the assist) landing a goal just over five minutes into the game.

The Bluejays tied the game 1-1 at the 3:32 mark with the first goal of the night for forward Corey Nelson (with Jace Thompson assisting). The Bluejays would then score two more goals within seconds of each other in the final minute for a 3-1 lead at the end of the first.

The Bluejays would hit two more goals, one just 30 seconds in and the other at the 8:30 mark, to increase their lead to 5-1. Both sides would see one player each bit by the penalty bug in the period as well.

Seven minutes into the third period Jamestown would land its sixth goal of the night, credited to Thompson (and Nelson providing the assist).

The Braves would get their second point of the night on an unassisted Amsbaugh goal at the 3:40 mark. The Bluejays responded seconds later with a goal from Hunter Nelson.

At the end of the night, Braves goaltender Tyler Olson had 49 saves - 15 in the first, 16 in the second and 18 in the third.

The next day, the Braves went to Bottineau and got a 6-3 home win over the Dickinson Midgets. The Braves saw Amsbaugh come away with four goals and an assist. Also netting goals for the Braves were Landon Rosendahl and Rybchinski. Olson and fellow goaltender Robert Dibble got 13 and 11 saves, respectively.

On Tuesday the Braves traveled to Williston and were shutout for the first time this season, falling 3-0 to the Williston Coyotes. The Coyotes scored two goals within seconds of each other to take a 2-0 lead in the second period, and one in the third.

The Braves take on the Bismarck High Demons today at 3 p.m. in Bottineau.

The next games for the Braves include one in Rugby against the Mayville-Portland Area team (junior varsity at 5 p.m., varsity at 7 p.m.) on Dec. 19, and a varsity only game against Hazen-Beulah in Bottineau on Dec. 20 (7:30 p.m. start).
