Ball in the House to open Rugby concert series

Ball in the House, an r&b/soul/pop a cappella group, will be the first of three Heart of America Concert Series performances in Rugby during the 2019-20 season.

The group is slated to perform Thursday, Oct. 24, at 7:30 p.m. at the Tilman Hovland Auditorium in Rugby High School.

Also performing in Rugby this season are Sons of the Pioneers the original "singing cowboy" band on Saturday, March 21, 2020, and Kenny Ahern on Thursday, April 23, 2020.

Admission to performances is by season membership only. Season memberships are $40 for adults; $5 for students; and $80 for families.

The concert series is supported in part by a grant from the N.D. Council on the Arts which receives funding from the Legislature and from the National Endowment on the Arts.

The Journey to meet in October

The Journey a local cancer support group will meet Wednesday, Oct. 16, at 6:30 p.m. at the Fox Auditorium in the Heart of America Medical Center.

Guest speakers for the meet will be Alli Rognlien, HAMC's director of physical therapy/occupational therapy/rehab/wellness/speech, and Jen Brossart, HAMC staff physical therapist/certified athletic trainer. Rognlien will speak on "Post Mastectomy Protocol and Lymphedema Risk" and Brossart will speak on "Taking Back Control."

October flu shot clinics

Lake Region District Health Unit's Pierce County Health Office will hold flu shot clinics in October.

Flu shots will be available at the office lower level of the Pierce County Courthouse from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and from noon to 5 p.m. Oct. 1, 17 and 25, and from 5 to 7 p.m. on Oct. 15.

Flu shot clinics will also be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Oct. 7 at Little Flower School; 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 8 at Ely Elementary School; 1 to 4 p.m. Oct. 9 at Rugby High School; and from 11 a.m. to noon Oct. 14 at the Rugby Senior Citizens Center.

Persons wanting flu shot clinics scheduled at their businesses or locations should contact Samantha Wentz at 776-6783. Walk-ins are also welcome.

County budget approved

County Commissioners present for a special meeting last Tuesday morning approved Pierce County's budget for 2020.

The county will levy over $1.53 million on all taxable properties for 2020. Of that total, over $1.01 million will be for the county's general fund and $516,782 will be for special revenue funds.

County board members present also approved an abatement request for David Bohl, and a motion authorizing the chairman to sign a construction and maintenance agreement with the N.D. Department of Transportation.

The board also met with Jessica Tagestad, of Wold Engineering, via conference call. In a related motion the board voted to not use federal aid monies for engineering costs on a road project (SC-3505 [055]).
