Robert Nelson Syvertson

Sept. 22, 1938 - Mar. 31, 2019

Robert Nelson Syvertson, the son of Selmer and Bertha (Watson) Syvertson was born on September 22, 1938 in Bottineau, North Dakota. He died at the age of 80 years on Sunday, March 31, 2019 at his home in Willow City, North Dakota.

Robert was raised in the home of his parents by Overly, North Dakota. He went to grade school in Overly and graduated from Willow City High School in 1956 and continued his education at Bottineau School of Forestry. Robert was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1958 and was deployed to Korea and was honorably discharged in 1960. On June 22, 1962, he was united in marriage to Darlene Sivertson in Newburg, North Dakota. The couple lived in Mohall, Parshall and New Town before making their home on the farm near Overly. They later moved to Willow City, where they raised their two children and currently reside.

Robert loved farming, the farm and everything it represented, with his favorite time of year being harvest. He was a fan of the Minnesota Twins and Vikings and watching basketball, all over the state. He followed his children and grandchildren in their sporting and school events. He was a member of the American Legion, including the honor guard, Rugby Eagles, Rolette Country Club and a lifetime member of

the Willow Creek Lutheran Church in Overly. He was active in his community and enjoyed his family and friends.

Robert is survived by his wife, Darlene; children, Tracie (Jay) Welk of Willow City and Kelly (Pam) Syvertson of Garrison; grandchildren, Kirsten (Kyle) Hass, Jayden Welk, Melissa (Gary Lee) Kyle, JennaLee (Chris) Narum, Cayden Holmes, Rebecca Syvertson and Tyler Syvertson; six great grandchildren, Blake and Briggs, Talayna, Kazrina, Nadalie and Lochlan; sisters, Betty Tweten and Geri Hanson; nieces,

nephews; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Dale Syvertson and a sister, Mary McAlmond.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 4 at Willow Creek Lutheran Church in Overly with spring burial in the church cemetery. Pastor Jim Odden, officiating.
