Laurie Loucks Domis formerly of Rugby is celebrating 40 yrs in the nursing profession in August 2018. She graduated from Lake Region Junior College in August 1978 and began her nursing career immediately thereafter. She worked briefly at Rolette Community Hospital, then transferred to Saint Josephs Hospital in Minot, N. Dak. where she spent 18 1/2 yrs and got her core base in nursing. Thereafter, she moved to the Dunseith area and began working at Dunseith Community Nursing Home. She took a brief sabatical from the nursing home in 2004 and worked at Belcourt Indian Health Services for approx 8 months, later returning to Dunseith Community Nursing Home where she is presently employed.

Laurie has encountered various hurdles in her lifetime while working, and, in more recent years was actively dealing with breast cancer. However, with the help of the cancer care team at Trinity Medical Center she over came yet another obsticle.

Laurie has related if she is really lucky she will be able to work until at least 70 yrs of age. I can thank my Father (now deceased) and older sibling sisters for giving me this wonderful opportunity. They all wanted to make sure I had an education and sound retirement made available to me. For that I will be eternally grateful. I can consider myself a really fortunate girl. I only wish I could pay them back tenfold for their ingenuity, clever, and generous nature!
