Elna Maurreen (Lindelien) Mack

Oct. 25, 1924 – Apr. 29, 2018

Elna Maurreen Lindelien Mack was born October 25, 1924 to Elmer and Cordelia (Erickson) Lindelien in Rugby, North Dakota. Elna grew up in Rugby with her parents

and brothers and graduated from Rugby High School in 1942 at the top of her class. Mrs. Mack died in Rugby on Sunday morning, April 29, 2018.

Elna worked at Citizens State Bank in Rugby until she married Joe Mack at Orrin on October 26, 1948. She often commented that her marriage to Joe was the best decision of her life.

Elna and Joe raised their five children on the Mack family farm and lived there until June, 2003, when Elna and Joe moved to Rugby. Elna and Joe instilled in their chil-

dren and grandchildren the importance of educa-tion, a good work ethic, and faith in God. They were active members at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Orrin. Elna be-

came a member at Little Flower Church during her final years in Rugby.

When you visited the farm, Elna always offered a meal. She was known as a wonderful cook. Between the Norwegian foods (especially desserts) from her youth, and the German foods she learned as a “Norwegian import” into a German Russian community, she cooked a great variety of foods and kept a full freezer in the event of company. Elna took care of bookkeeping for the farm and community organizations. As her children grew in age, Elna worked as assistant postmaster at Orrin and then

worked for several years at The Connection in Rugby. She was connected to the Internet before many, even though she was already of retirement age. Keeping up with her families activities via email and Facebook filled much of her time. Elna enjoyed singing and playing music, even teaching herself to play the organ. Her love for music was passed along to several children and grandchildren. In addition to (and as part of) being a wonderful wife and mother, and until her vision diminished, Elna

enjoyed sewing, crocheting, reading and playing cards. She could also beat the pants off of almost anyone when it came to crossword puzzles and playing Scrabble. Elna was her family’s “Alexa” before such was ever invented. She will be deeply missed. Elna developed many new friends while living at the Haaland Manor apartments from 2004 to 2017 and greatly appreciated each of her new friendships. Elna was a resident and patient at the Heart Of America Care Center and Medical

Center during the past year. She was eternally grateful for the care and attention she received from the aides, nurses and other personnel.

Elna is survived by her children: Kerry (Richard) Altringer, Storm Lake, Iowa; Greg (Debora) Mack, Rugby; Jane (Richard) Brossart, Rugby; Galen (Glenda) Mack, Rugby; and Nancy (Michael) Vogt, Rock Rapids, Iowa; 18 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren (with the 28th expected in August). She is also survived by brothers, Ardmore Lindelien of Denver, and Lyman Lindelien of Salt Lake City; sisters-in-laws, Ann (George) Mack, Rugby and Lorraine (Ed) Mack Schaefer, Brandon,

South Dakota; and many nieces and nephews.

Elna was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers, Lowell and Veniss Lindelien, two grandchildren, Catherine Brossart and Jonathan Altringer, and

many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
