Letter carriers help stamp out hunger May 12

May 12 marks the 26th anniversary of America's great day of giving when the local USPS celebrates National Association of Letter Carriers Stamp Out Hunger Food drive.

Carriers throughout the community will be collecting food donations in Rugby May 12. Rural carriers will also be collecting, and there should be a bag left in your mailbox for the donations. Non-perishable foods will be collected, which are needed for the food banks.

Participation this year is easy. Simply leave your food donation in a bag by your mailbox on Saturday. May 12, and your letter carrier will pick up the donation on his normal delivery.

Heilman named NDLTCA Adult Volunteer of the Year

North Dakota long term care facilities appreciate the many volunteers whom share their time and talents with residents throughout the state. Each year, the North Dakota Long Term Care Association (NDLTCA) selects outstanding volunteers in three categories: Adult, Young Adult and Group.

This year's Adult Volunteer of the Year is Marge Heilman from Heart of America Medical Center, Rugby, ND.

Marge has been a volunteer at Heart of America Medical Center and the Haaland Estates for over twenty years. She has been doing hair care every week at both facilities throughout these 20 years. Marge makes sure each resident has a timely cut, perm or color for holidays, birthdays and family events. The residents and staff at Heart of America and Haaland Estates consider Marge as part of their family.

Marge donates her time and talents to the residents with a loving smile and a big heart. Her conversations with the residents are meaningful and appreciated. She truly cares about the residents and their well-being.

The 2018 Volunteer of the Year recipients will be recognized at the NDLTCA Gala Awards Dinner Wednesday, May 2nd, at the Bismarck Event Center. Additional volunteer winners to be honored at this year's awards gala are group volunteers, Ron's unbelievable Bingo Bunch, Golden Manor, Steele, ND; Cavalier and young adult volunteer, Rylee Martin, St. Aloisius Medical Center, Harvey, ND.
