Darlene was born on September 16, 1934 to Elbert (Bert) and Madeline (Voltz) Benshoof in Hurdsfield, ND. The family moved to Leeds, ND in 1939. Darlene graduated

from Leeds High School in 1952. She married Dennis Pierson on February 16, 1953. They started their lives together and their family in Tioga, ND. After only a few years (1956) they moved to Knox, ND to take over the Pierson family farm and raised their family.

Darlene was very active in the Knox, York and Leeds communities. She taught Sunday school classes and was on the board for St. Mary's Catholic Church of Knox.

She served on the York Community Days Board for many years and helped organize the York Days celebrations. Darlene also helped to organize a number of Leeds All School Reunions. She was on the Leeds Public School Board for 16 years and was Board President for 13 years. Darlene also enjoyed her many years of working part time at Borth's Department store in Rugby, ND.

Darlene enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and friends. She made the best Special K bars, just ask her grandkids. Christmas time would find Darlene in the kitchen for hours with Dennis baking all kinds of Christmas cookies. Then they would make tray after tray to deliver to friends and family. Those friends and family members waited all year for Darlene's Christmas tray. Her sugar cookies were a big hit for everyone. Darlene also loved spending time in her immense flower garden and her larger vegetable garden. One of her favorite things to do was play cards. Whenever anyone stopped by the house Darlene would always say "who wants to

play cards". It was important to both Darlene and Dennis to spend as much time as they could with their kids and their grandkids, their pride and joy.

Darlene had so many wonderful memories of time spent with friends. Her sister time with the Burkhardsmeier sisters on their trips to South Dakota and time together in Leeds and around North Dakota. Darlene and Dennis had many fun times spent with the Andersons, Bergs, Bragers, and the Youngs at the lake in the summer,

snowmobiling during the winter months, and the many card parties they would have together.

Darlene is survived by her husband, Dennis of Rugby, ND; three sons, Mark of Bismarck, ND, Stanley (Sheila) of Rugby, ND and Philip of Knox, ND and their three
