Madelyn "Madge" Alme

Madelyn "Madge" Alme, affectionately known to many as "Gram"-95, Minot, died Saturday, February 24, 2018 in her home.

Madelyn Lucille Follman was born August 13, 1922, the daughter of Curtis and Elizabeth (Hock) Follman on the family farm near York, ND. She was raised and

educated in York, then went on to earn her Standard Degree in Education from Minot State Teachers College in 1942.

On July 16, 1944, Madge married Arnold "Arne" Alme in Norman, OK. They made their home on the Gilbert Nelson Farm in Balfour, ND. Madge taught full-time for

36.5 years, while raising four beautiful girls and driving to Minot at night for classes to earn her B.S. degree. Throughout her career she taught in Drake, Balfour, Kief,

Cathay, Butte, Sawyer and a country school outside of Pick City.

While her daughters and grandchildren were the center of her universe, she also made time for self education of all kinds.

She once bought an accordion at a garage sale and practiced for months on end, prompting Arne to remark, "She played music that even I didn't recognize!" Determined to learn how to cross country ski, she suffered a broken arm and other injuries causing Arne to talk about "the hazards of being married to an athlete!"

She developed a reputa-tion as a fairly good golfer when she hit not one, but two holes-in-one! She also enjoyed fishing, gardening, and never lost a game of solitaire. (There may have been a little cheating involved.)

One of her favorite outings was lunching with her high school classmates in Rugby on the second Wednesday of every month.

An avid reader of the Wall Street Journal, she kept the family informed on world and financial affairs. Unwavering in her determination to pass along financial wisdom,

she gave stock quotes from her Apple watch and continuously reminded her children and grandchildren, "save your money!" She was close to her family, recently serving as her granddaughter Kelly's matron of honor, a position she coveted. Gram's family is so grateful to be able to carry on her legacy through her values and lessons. She will be terribly missed by us all. There will never be another Gram.

She was preceded in death by her daughter Paulie Alme Paul; parents, Curtis and Elizabeth "Libby" Follman; husband, Arnold Alme; brothers, Henry and Bill; sisters,

Eileen and Ruth, son-in-law, Joel Davy and her beloved pug and loyal companion, Rocky.

She is survived by three of her four daughters: Pamela Davy (Joel) and Penny Hamilton (Mark) of Minot, ND; and Patricia Rostvedt (Craig) of Denver, CO.

She was a fiercely proud and loyal grandmother to seven grandchildren: Caroline DeVinck, Minneapolis, MN; Jason Rostvedt (Deborah), Denver, CO; Maria King (Colton), Golden, CO; Casey Paul, New York, NY; Kendra Rostvedt, Denver, CO; Chappy Windsor (Jake) and Kelly Hackett (Derek) of Minot, ND.

She took great delight in each of her nine great-grandchildren: Cade and Ava Rostvedt and Bryton and Genesee Dehaven all of Denver, CO; Brynn, Talon and Easton King of Golden, CO and Ainsley Windsor and Polly Hackett, both of Minot. She is also survived by her two sisters: Helen Ryyth (Rudi), Rolla, ND and Inez "Toodie"

Iverson (Buster), Greeley, CO.
