Rugby quilters offer free classes

January 26, 2018
Bonnie Remmick - Tribune Reporter , Pierce County Tribune

Beginning Tuesday, February 13, the St Paul Lutheran Church will offer a class in quilting at the church at 320 8th St NW in Rugby.

At the first meeting students are not required to bring anything to class. The first class will consist of an introduction to equipment and how to use cutting tools properly. Rosie Armstrong, who is teaching the class, said "I have handouts for supplies for the following classes.

"Rugby has a lot of good local talent in quilt making and we want to continue to share these skills," she continued. "We will be making a four block sampler. This four block technique will give you the basics for making your first quilt."

"I was a beginner too, and we know it's hard to get started, and the tools can be overwhelming. A couple of us decided we'd start with basic things and grow it from there." Rosie explained. "We are really excited to share this art form with all who want to come. It can be men too!"

At the first class, the guild will also be bringing finished samples for people to look at. The first project is quite simple, and should be finished in four to six weeks. If people continue an interest they are encouraged to join the guild. "This is a reasonable cost hobby to do. Our entire annual cost for the Guild is $20 annually but there is no cost to attend this class. Please join us.

"Every month we have show and tell at the Guild, and we love to see what everybody's working on. The class will meet the second Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. for about four to six weeks.
