Anonymous donor gives to German Russians in America

Monica Houim, president of the German Russians in America organization in Rugby, has announced that an anonymous donor has come forth with a considerable donation to be used as “seed money” for the erecting of a new building. This building, to be located at the Prairie Village Museum site in Rugby, will provide storage, display and preservation of artifacts that are currently in storage for the local German Russians in America.

Houim said, “this will get our fundraising efforts off to a great start, and we hope to break ground at the museum site by next fall.”

“We will be raising awareness by sending out letters in the near future,” she added. “These artifacts were being exposed to the elements but we are working on preserving them, and we are so thankful to this family for donating such a large sum money.”

The previous facility that was being used to store the artifacts deteriorated and the items were moved to storage for protection.

“Family ancestry is so important, and many of these items were lost during immigration to America,” the president of Germans from Russia in America said. “It’s important we share our history before we lose it altogether. I hope the community will join in during our fundraising efforts in any way they can.”
