Once again, the Rugby Panthers are District 11 volleyball tournament champions.

But to get to that point, they had to go through the Bottineau Stars in the championship round of the tournament.

The Panthers won all three sets against the Stars; 27-25, 25-20 and 25-15.

On the stat sheets, Maria Blessum led the Panthers in kills (13); Sara Stier led in both service aces (2) and digs (8); Madison Uhlenkamp led in blocks (2) and Brianna Leier led in assists (14). For the Stars, Kaitlyn Christenson led in aces (1); Jaclyn Hanson led in blocks (3); London Andel led in both digs (18) and assists (22) and Lexi Gullett led in kills (14).

With a first round bye last Thursday evening, the Panthers got a bit of a breather. The next day they played the Towner-Granville-Upham Titans, who were fresh off a 3-2 victory over the Nedrose Cardinals.

The Panthers defeated the Titans in three sets; 25-11, 25-12 and 25-18

The Stars, meanwhile, defeated Westhope-Newburg in three sets to open the tournament. In the semi-final round the Stars defeated Velva, 3-2.

Region 6 tournament

Rugby will play in the first game of this year's Region 6 tournament at 3 p.m. Monday (Nov. 6), squaring off against District 12 fourth seed Bishop Ryan. The winner of that game will play at 6 p.m. on Tuesday (Nov. 7) against the winner of the Velva/Des Lacs-Burlington matchup.

Towner-Granville-Upham will square off against the No. 1-seed out of District 12-Our Redeemer's Christian School-25 minutes after the Velva/DLB game ends. The winner of that game will take on the winner of the Bottineau/Berthold game on Tuesday.

The third place game will be held Thursday, Nov. 9 at 6 p.m., and the championship round will follow 25 minutes later. All games will be held at the Minot Municipal Auditorium.
