Rugby girls’ cross country G'OTT' first

October 20, 2017
Pierce County Tribune

In the last meet of the season before regionals, the Rugby High School varsity girls cross country team as a whole took first, while the boys took second at the Griggs County Central G"OTT" Courage Invitational last week at Cooperstown Bible Camp.

Leading the Rugby girls was Quinn Neppl, who took sixth (19:36). Ellie Duchscherer (11th - 20:39) and Tristin Lunde (12th - 20:44) were not too far behind.

The boys had three runners take top 10 spots out of 175 runners. Riley Zachmeier, who finished third on the meet (17:00), led the Rugby boys. Kadin Neppl took eighth (17:53), while Dawson Schepp was just seven seconds behind him despite finishing 10th.

The boys team finished 20 points behind division winner Hatton-Northwood-Thompson (63). The girls team had nearly double the edge over Hatton-Northwood-Thompson with 64 points.

Members of both teams have one last shot at state today with the regional meet in Griggs County. The meet starts at 11 a.m.

The state meet will be held at 2 p.m. on Oct. 28 in Valley City.
