Man with Rugby ties killed in crash

July 28, 2017
Pierce County Tribune

A Grand Forks resident with Rugby ties was one of three men killed last week in a crash on U.S. Highway 2 just five miles west of Grand Forks.

Gary Voeller, 41, a son of Duane & Margaret Voeller, was born and raised in Rugby. At the time of his death he was on his way to work at the commissary on the Grand Forks Air Force Base.

Voeller and nine other occupants were westbound on Hwy 2 in a 2007 Chevrolet Express van, which was in the right-hand lane. At the same time a 2002 International semi truck hauling diesel was in the passing lane.

According to a report from the N.D. Highway Patrol the van attempted to turn at a crossover and entered into the semi's path. The semi then struck the van, which entered the median and rolled.

Funeral services for Voeller were held Monday morning at Little Flower Catholic Church in Rugby.

Also killed in the crash were Jason Boppre, 39, and William Joyner, 66, both of Grand Forks. Seven others, including the van driver, were injured in the crash.
