Track season in home stretch

Rugby High School’s girls and boys track & field teams got three meets out of the way before the regional tournament.

At the Velva Last Chance meet Monday the girls saw state qualifiers in the 100-meter dash (Kristina Brossart – 12.53); 4×100, 4×200 and 4×400-meter relays; and triple jump (Sara Stier – 34 feet, 6.5 inches).

The girls also had non-qualifying first place finishes in the 200-meter dash (Brossart – 27.09); 1600-meter run (Ellie Duchscherer – 5:49.78); 300-meter hurdles (Anni Stier – 50.90); 4×800-meter relay (Duchscher, Anna Clements, Tristin Lunde, Karsyn Hager – 10:39.06); and long jump (Sara Stier – 15 feet, 7.5 inches).

The boys had first place finishes in the 4×100 and 4×800 relays.

Prior to the Velva Last Chance, the teams had meets on their home turf and at the Glenburn Invitational in Minot.

At the Glenburn Invitational the girls saw first place finishes in the 300 hurdles (Anni Stier – 50.67); 4×100 relay; long jump (Sara Stier – 16 feet, 5 inches); triple jump (Sara Stier – 35 feet, 10.5 inches); pole vault (Maria Blessum – 9 feet, 6 inches); discus (Madison Uhlenkamp – 111 feet, 5 inches); and javelin (Uhlenkamp – 111 feet, 10 inches).

The boys didn’t have first place finishes, instead taking second in the 100 dash, 800-meter run; 4×100, 4×200 and 4×400 relays; and pole vault.

At the Panther Booster Invitational in Rugby, the girls took firsts in the 4×400 and 4×800 relays. The girls also had qualifiers in pole vault; 4×100 and 4×200 relays; long jump; and triple jump.

The boys had first place finishes in the 100 dash; 300 hurdles; 4×100. 4×200 and 4×400 relays; and pole vault.

The regional track meet was held Friday in Rugby.
