Port: Cry me a river, liberals

By Staff | Mar 10, 2017

After President Donald Trump’s address to a joint session of Congress this past week, Rep. Kevin Cramer insulted a group of Democratic women who wore white.

Their intent was to suggest that the President might try and deny women the right to vote, or something like that.

“(B)y the way, did you notice how poorly several of them were dressed as well?” Congressman Kevin Cramer asked, rhetorically, during a talk radio town hall.

“It is a syndrome,” Cramer continued. “There is no question, there is a disease associated with the notion that a bunch of women would wear bad-looking white pantsuits in solidarity with Hillary Clinton to celebrate her loss. You cannot get that weird.”

In what I’m sure you’ll find to be a shocking development, Cramer’s comments elicited no small amount of sanctimony and snark from political observers both local and national.

But while that was going on, vast swaths of the electorate both here in North Dakota and across the nation treated the news with indifference.

Why? Because the only people who care about what outrages liberals these days are other liberals.

Because you liberals are outraged by everything outside your political bubble.

You’re talking to yourselves, which might explain why you’ve been losing ground in state and federal elections for years now.

You’re outraged by the millions of Americans who are pro-life. You’re outraged by people who think immigration laws ought to be enforced uniformly.

If someone argues that Medicare might not be a fiscally sustainable program you accuse them of wanting to push old people off a cliff.

On college campuses you have declared war on gender-specific pronouns. During one entire election cycle you accused Republicans of a #waronwomen in part because they thought maybe it was ok if we didn’t turn birth control into an entitlement.

Rep. Cramer mocked a bunch of Democratic women for wearing all white, yet when Melania Trump wore all white it was cast as racist symbolism.

“(W)hether she intended it or not, her all-white ensemble displayed the kind of foreignness that is accepted by her husband’s political party,” the Philadelphia Inquirer’s Elizabeth Wellington wrote about about the outfit the First Lady wore to the RNC convention in Cleveland. “To many, that outfit could be another reminder that in the G.O.P. white is always right.”

When you liberals get indignant because a Republican said something mean (about a group of Democratic women who were, in turn, trying to imply something mean about the President) those of us who dissent from liberal orthodoxy see hypocrisy.

You carry on as though everyone who disagrees with you is a bigoted, misogynistic rube and then expect us to feel sorry for you because a Congressman called out a political stunt for what it was.

I wish Cramer hadn’t said what he said – it came off like a Trump impersonation from someone not usually inclined to personal insults – but spare me the phony baloney outrage.

You’re not convincing anyone.
