Autumn is upon us

August 26, 2016
Ashley Berg - General Manager , Pierce County Tribune

I don't know where summer has gone, but then again we say that just about everything - where has the day gone, the week, the SUMMER, the year...gone? I suppose we don't say it about winter! Ha!

As I walked into Ely on Wednesday, the wind struck me and I had a chill of autumn. It sort of surprised men even though many of us think of summer being over when school starts. But the exact day it seemed more then coincidental! I'll take it either way. I by no means want to wish time away, nor do I want to wish winter to be here any sooner, however, I love autumn! It's truly the perfect time of year - the weather is, of course, up in the air with the possibility to not be what we consider "normal." Fall for me consists of sweatshirts, sweaters, scarves and boots - what more can you ask for? Leaves are probably the first thing I think of when I think of autumn. Their rich and brilliant color first strikes me, then as they fall, they crackle under your boots - followed by clean up and the smell of burning leaves. It's really a season for all of your senses.

I know not everybody loves pumpkin or cinnamon, but for those of us that do... Starbucks made a genius move when they brought to the table Pumpkin Spice Lattes! Every year I look forward to that fall day that I have off and just plainly take for myself. Mornings in the fall are golden and perfect. I start with a pumpkin spice latte and stroll the town and shops. It's just a relaxing day in and out. Strolling, feeling good about myself and the day. It's good to just not sweat the daily things all the time and just shut it all off. This is also a great time to get back into reading. Some people can find the time thru the summer to read; I am not one of them. Fall and winter are book months. I'm looking forward to reading as I have picked up a number of books at sales and from friends. So the stack "to read" has become a small mountain!

To farmers, I can only imagine the stress of the work load and getting the crops off; however, to an onlooker - the fields are beautiful both to the eye and nose. I love the smell of a freshly combined field.

That brings us to football season - Go Panthers! I love going to the games. I do have to chuckle, because since I've been back I've been to more football games than I did when I was in high school. It's nice being outside, catching up with friends and being cozy in the stands.

If it's any of the above, hunting season, my birthday... what ever may grab you, take in the changes of the season. And if autumn is not your favorite, don't worry a new season will be here before you know it! Cheers!
