Fifth annual Geographical Center day scheduled

By Staff | Aug 12, 2016

Rugby’s fifth annual Geographical Center Day will be held on Saturday, Sept. 10.

The day will kick off with a Kiddie Bike Parade after the Daryl Kuhnhenn Run through downtown Rugby.

Various activities and events are scheduled to follow, including a 3-on-3 Youth Basketball Tournament, a dunking booth, seven different bouncy houses with slides and games, Balloons by Jim, games such as Nickel in the Hay and more.

“We have a wonderful family day,” said Shelley Block, Rugby Chamber of Commerce executive director. “We started this because we wanted to have something fun for after the harvest season and to bring people to our community.”

Food vendors will also be available throughout, with selections available from 3rd Street Station, Henry’s 90 Wt Ribs & Brisket and FBLA.

“It’s a great event for people of all ages,” said Leah Harper, Chamber director. “I really love the aspect of getting the community together.”

The night will conclude with a Street Dance downtown featuring Pop ROCKS, a “high energy live music show” that plays the most popular songs of today’s music, along with throwback hip-hop, country, and party rock, among others.

“We like to have a band that’s fun for the whole family,” Block said. “That way, parents can bring the kids and everyone can enjoy.”

The band will be playing from 8:30 p.m. to midnight, and tickets are on sale now. Entrance to the dance is included with the purchase of a $10 Raffle Ticket, which can be purchased from any Chamber Director or at the CVB and Chamber Office within Hartley’s Mall. Admission to the dance is $15 at the gate.

Raffle prizes include two Luxcraft Adirondack Chairs from St Michel Furniture, a Louisiana LG 900 Pellet Grill & Smoker from Hardware Hank, 6-piece Summerdale Patio Set from Shopko, and $250 in Rugby Chamber Bucks.

Chamber directors include Ashley Berg, Dave Lyon, Laurie Odden, Jessy Wicht, Harper, Tracy Corum, Michael Houim, Steve Nelson and Levi Heisler.
