Despite rainy conditions, two area youths took top prize in their respective age groups at the state Punt, Pass and Kick - sponsored by the National Football League - on Oct. 12 in Carrington. Age groups were broken down into 6-7, 8-9, 10-11, 12-13 and 13-14-year olds for both boys and girls.

"I thought it was pretty fun," said Jaylee Brandt, son of Kip & April Brandt of Towner. Jaylee was the winner in the 10-11 boys group, with a throw of 183 feet, 8 inches.

Rugby High School freshman Madison Uhlenkamp, daughter of Fred & Tara Berndt of Balta, took the 14-15 girls division with a throw of 209 feet, 2 inches.

"This was my first year that I had a chance to participate, and it's been really exciting!" Uhlenkamp said. "I had good competition in both Rugby and Carrington, so it felt good to come out on top."
